how to feel happy, how to live a happy life, how to be happy again, how to make yourself happy, how to be happy in life, how to be happy with yourself, how to be happy with your life, how to find out what makes you happy
20 Habits Practiced By Truly Happy People You Can Adopt
Written by Kayla Delargy
"Happy people are happy because they make themselves happy - how do they do that?”
"Happiness is letting go of what you think your life is suppose to look like.”

Boy did that quote hit me hard the first time I heard it, and even again to this day as I reread it and type it out to share with you.

There are far too many times I catch myself feeling a sense of disappointment in how something went in my day-to-day or life in general.

…and those times, were some of my lowest times. Who knows how long I stayed there for.

What about for you?

Do you catch yourself setting unrealistic expectations? On yourself - or those around you?

You know the term ‘being happy’ gets mentioned a lot, whether it’s someone talking about their hopes in being, or another speaking out of anger on why they can’t seem to be…

But throughout my experience embarking on my own inner-happiness journey, I do believe there are a good handful of us that have seem to have figured it out.

Happiness, truly being - and overtime I have collected those traits they all seem to posses in hopes of being able to incorporate the same in my own lifestyle.

What I can honestly say is that it has worked. Through practicing these exercises, traits and expressing specific emotions - I not only feel a better sense of happiness, but have increased the flow in many of my daily experiences.

So I’d like to take some time now, and share the 20 things happy people do regularly now with you :
how to feel happy, how to live a happy life, how to be happy again, how to make yourself happy, how to be happy in life, how to be happy with yourself, how to be happy with your life, how to find out what makes you happy
1 - Practice self care
Self care, self love, selfishness… whatever some may call it, it’s extremely important in maintaining a well being and a happy lifestyle.

Though others could argue, I believe taking care of oneself, first and foremost, is beneficial for you - and everyone else around you.

Take some time to do something you love, visit a place that inspires you, read a book that you’ve been putting off, go for the run you’ve been meaning to make time for, the list is truly endless!

Think of how happy you’d be…

2 - Have a schedule or task list
What are you doing on a regular basis?

Is it productive? Time consuming? Income producing?

I’m not one to push a constant, every day same-thing routine, but I do believe in having a structure of each day’s tasks and responsibilities!

Create a task list, or have a schedule of what needs to be started / finished and when.

Now do I always finish everything on my list each day? Let’s be real - no way! But having an outline, a list of what needs to be done either daily, or weekly allows me to move forward productively which gives peace to my life.

3 - Have an open mind
Push your comfort zone.

Try new things, test different waters, and have less judgement on what you don’t know.

It’s mind-blowing the opportunities that can come to you, when you decide to have an open mind and be accepting of all that’s here for you!

When was the last time, you did something that not only excites, but scares the hell out of you too?

4 - Continuous smiling
Happy people smile. And they smile a lot!

“When a smile flashes across your face, our brains release ‘feel-good’ neurotransmitters, including dopamine, endorphins and serotonin.”

Smiling is known to not only life your mood, but also in those around you! Wouldn’t that be amazing? A free, easy and efficient way of not only improving your happiness but in those you care about most too.

Smile on!

5 - Express kindness + gratitude
Did you know it is impossible to be angry or even sad, while feeling gratitude? When in a state of gratitude, everything around you seems to ‘go your way’.

But in reality, what’s happening is there is no attachment to how things should be - or how people are suppose to respond. When you are in a state of gratitude, there is a grace in what is, as it is that you feel at peace with.

Expressing kindness, and living in a state of gratitude is the first step in reflecting back what you want the world to give and show to you!

6 - Regular exercise / physical activity
Along with self care, physical activity is a huge aspect of feeling a sense of balance in your life.

So many of us struggle with anxiety, depression, and insecurities, but so many of these diseases and illnesses stem from too much energy being bottled up inside of ourselves.

Moving around, getting out and taking a walk, spending some time learning new gym routines can help give you a sense of relief through whatever you may be experiencing, and who knows - maybe give you a rockin’ new body too!

7 - Live life with passion
I use to wonder how in the heck those happy souls could exude so much excitement and joy within their days… Until I found things I was passionate about, and did them on a consistent basis.

Whether it was in the work I was finishing, or the clients I was coaching, the routine I was doing at the gym, or the food I was preparing for me and my husband - when I incorporated the things that did feed my soul, doing those things that didn’t - didn’t seem so bad after all.

“Passion is energy. Feel the power that comes from focusing on what excites you.”

8 - Spend quality time alone
Some struggle with the thought of even being alone, let alone actually going out and doing it.

But spending time with oneself can be such an empowering exercise to practice in creating balance and peace in ones life.

Go for a walk, read a good book, take yourself to lunch, go visit your favorite place on a whim - just be with yourself, and soak in the pure amazingness you alone bring to this world!

9 - Focus on positive thought patterns
I challenge you to do something with this one.

Set a timer on your phone for the next 3 days, to go off every hour, and when it does - check in with your thoughts.

What are you thinking about? Is it the same thing continuously? Is it positive, judgmental, or self destructive?

It’s not that ‘happy people’ never have a negative thought cross their minds, it’s that they know what to do with the thoughts when they do arise.

…and it isn’t pretending they never happened.

Those happy people you desire to be like, refuse to let those thoughts stop or control them.

Will you?

10 - Accept accountability
Though it may be difficult, accepting personal accountability for what happens in your life, is a huge stepping stone in creating a happier, more fulfilled lifestyle.

They say, taking a cold hard look in the mirror can be one of the hardest things to do in life - but it’s also once of the most relieving aspects of growing self acceptance, and loving oneself.

You may not be able to change what was, but you can improve what is by taking accountability.

11 - Technology detoxes
I couldn’t believe the peace, and clarity I got from doing a detox from technology and social media at the start of 2019.

Honestly, I thought I was going to have a bit of a hard time disconnecting, and not checking my phone on the regular occasion. But it was more refreshing, and much easier than I imagined.

We all can tend to get caught up in scrolling our newsfeeds, watching videos for hours on end, or flipping through the numerous intriguing pins on Pinterest before we realize how much of our time has been wasted doing so.

Disconnect.

Take some time away from your phone, laptop and television. Refill your empty cup with new ideas, and a fresh outlook on things.

Your happiness deserves it.

12 - Nourished bodies with healthy food + water
Your health, is your wealth.

It’s all we’ve really got at the end of the day when you set everything else aside.

You could be the richest person on this planet, but if you don’t have your health - is it worth it?

I could live in the most remarkable home, on the most glorious island, but if I don’t have my health to simply get out of bed and walk to my own window to see it - it isn’t worth it.

See, those who live a fulfilled life, take care of their themselves with the highest quality of ingredients.

That means eating nutritious foods, drinking clean-not contaminated water on a daily basis. Not skipping meals, drinking calories, or embarking on late night fast food adventures.

If you want to think clearly - it’s time to feed your mind, body + soul better quality!

13 - Spend moments being fully present
The present moment of Now.

You’ve heard it talked about before, you’ve probably even heard some express the importance of it - but do you exercise it?

This has been one of the hardest adjustments I personally have had to work on, as I am a dreamer living in the future of what could be - and what I need to do to work towards it.

But honestly, taking a moment, checking in with myself, really soaking in the moment for what it is then and there, has been one of the most gratifying changes I could of ever made. It’s the key in living a life filled of happiness.

Try it. Live for Now. Be in the Now…

All we have is Now.

14 - Challenge the known
Though it is great to have knowledge of things, and an education to help you get the most out of life - it is not the only thing that will lead to your survival.

The truly ‘happy’ challenge what they think they know, in hopes of discovering aspects and new realms of what they didn’t yet see or understand.

“Greatness is a road leading towards the unknown.”

15 - Avoid comparison
As difficult as it may be - not comparing yourself to where you should be, what you could of done, and who you aren’t is beyond one of the most rewarding acts of kindness you can show to yourself.

When we compare ourselves to that of what we aren’t, or cannot be, we leave ourselves feeling less than, and ultimately left in a funk we cannot repair.

You are meant to be you, as there is only one of you! Accept yourself, love yourself, and don’t compare yourself to things or persons you’ll never be.

16 - Savor the little things
The little things really are what matters most, and those little improvements are what make the biggest compound effect.

Relish in the little wins, celebrate the moments where you feel aligned and inspired!

When you think back on your life, and of your happiest times, it will be the little things that warm your heart and leave a smile.

17 - Forgive and move forward
I was never too fond of the statement “forgive + forget” but I will say moving forward is one of the most important aspects of expressing forgiveness, but it’s also one that is forgotten most.

Feeling truly happy inside comes with no regret, disconnect, or despair about your life and what’s happened in it.

Forgiveness does not require you to excuse what’s happened, or condone who’s done it, but it will allow you to move forward - and live a life of peace.

18 - A strong sense of purpose + ‘why’
You may not know why you’re here - or what you were put here to do, but there’s a reason for it.

As there is for each and every one of us. Though finding it, is your personal life’s mission! Those who have found true happiness, are living for a purpose much greater than themselves.

Ask yourself;

“What brings me most joy?”

“Why do I want to make a change? - What do I want to change?”
“How do I want to see myself?”

“What am I doing this, becoming this, creating this for?"

19 - Patience through uncertainty
The unknown will likely always send a chill down our spine, but having patience is key in creating balance in your life.

Having faith + trust in knowing that the universe is working, creating, and aligning everything perfectly for you is the sense of security we all want and need.

Though it may be hard to do, and it may take practice - but patience is key.

20 - Grace with self talk
Have you ever listened in to what you say to yourself? Especially in the lowest of times.

It’s important to understand how crucial having positive self talk is, and what it can do for your lifestyle.

“Happy people” don’t talk down to themselves, call themselves names, or doubt their strengths.

They welcome self doubt and insecurities as a way of checking in with oneself, and learning new ways of befriending the feelings of fear.

Start listening in…

If you can incorporate even a few of these suggested traits or exercises above, I can almost guarantee you a transformation in the way you feel + how you see your external environment.

Many times, we confuse ourselves by thinking that ‘being happy’ means we have to remain positive, never have a negative thought but in reality that’s not happiness, or life at all.

Happiness stems from balance. Balance in knowing what is as it is, and still being okay when it isn’t.

Happiness isn’t riding too high in the best of times, but not sinking into the depths unknown when you’ve met rock bottom.

I challenge you to practice any or all of these simple exercises above for the next 7 days - 1 whole week, and journal on your experience.

It’s time to increase your flow, and enjoy your day as we’re meant to!
